The Tamil Nadu BJP strongly condemns the exploitative policies of the corrupt DMK government, which has looted thousands of crores from the state while attempting to deceive the poor and needy with a paltry ₹3,000 Pongal cash assistance. This is a shameful and transparent attempt to mislead the people ahead of elections.
For several years, the legitimate Pongal entitlements owed to the people of Tamil Nadu have been deliberately withheld.
Chief Minister Stalin must immediately direct that the Pongal gift hamper be provided along with ₹8,000 in cash — comprising the announced ₹3,000 plus the ₹5,000 legitimately due from previous years’ arrears.Under the AIADMK government in 2021, ₹2,500 in cash was given along with the Pongal gift.
Yet, upon taking power, the DMK slashed it to a mere ₹1,000 in 2022 and 2023, provided zero cash in 2024 (deceiving the people entirely), and continued this pattern in 2025.
From 2022 to 2025, the DMK has deprived Tamil Nadu’s families of what should have totaled at least ₹10,000 in cash based on prior standards.By withholding ₹8,000 across those years and now offering a maximum of ₹3,000 in 2026, the government is effectively stealing from the poor and staging a pre-election drama to snatch votes through deception.
This is utterly disgraceful and exposes the hollowness of the so-called Dravidian model.The DMK has misled the people by denying the ₹5,000 legitimately owed from past years. Combining it with the current ₹3,000 would deliver a fair ₹8,000 — a just, honest, and necessary step that Chief Minister Stalin must take without further delay.
Just as corruption taints other state and central welfare schemes meant for Tamil Nadu, the DMK has shamelessly withheld Pongal entitlements for four years, bringing disrepute to the state and staining its governance record.We therefore strongly urge Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to act with genuine integrity and compassion by immediately raising the 2026 Pongal cash gift to ₹8,000 — incorporating the announced ₹3,000 plus the ₹5,000 in rightful arrears — and deliver true justice to the people of Tamil Nadu.
